Wire end ferrules
Wire end ferrules are the most practical and common way to bundle the fine wires of a stranded wire and thus create a secure electrical connection between cable and device. Without the use of a wire end ferrule, many of the individual wires in a screw connection, for example, would be pushed sideways past the actual connection. Thus, only very few wires would create the electrical transition. The result would be a high contact resistance and higher currents flowing through each wire. The resulting heat generation could cause the material to age and fatigue prematurely. In the worst case, there could even be a fire hazard. The use of a wire end ferrule counteracts all this. Regardless of whether it has a plastic collar or not. It guarantees a perfect electrical connection.
