Description:

The Smart Power Relay E-1048-8I- is a remotely controllable electronic load relay and contains three functions in a single device:

• Electronic relay
• Electronic overcurrent protection
• Status and diagnostic functions

The 7-pole INLINE design fits into the E-T-A socket type 17-P10-Si, for example. The rated current of the devices can be selected in the range 1 A to 20 A. The operating voltage range DC 9...32 V allows the connection of DC 12 V and DC 24 V loads.

In order to switch and fuse loads remotely, several discrete components in the load circuit were usually connected to form a functional unit:

• The coil of an electromechanical relay is energised via a control line, the integrated contact closes the load circuit
• an additional fuse element (circuit breaker or fuse) for line or device protection
• a device for current measurement (shunt)

The E-1048-8I integrates this function in a single component and eliminates a large number of plug connections in the circuit, which are always a potential source of error.

Applications:

The E-1048-8I can be used in all applications in the DC 12 V/DC 24 V range where solenoid valves, motors, lamps etc. need to be switched, protected and monitored:

• Road vehicles (commercial vehicles, buses, special vehicles)
• Rail vehicles
• Marine applications (ships, sailing boats, motor yachts, etc.)

The device can also be used in industrial plant and mechanical engineering as an electronic coupling relay between PLC and DC 12 V or DC 24 V load.

Key features:

• Thanks to the integrated power electronics, the device offers a wear-free switching function that is insensitive to shock or vibration.
• Only a fraction of the control power is required that electromechanical relays need to switch loads. This is important for battery-buffered load circuits that need to remain energised even when the generator is switched off.
• The extremely low intrinsic current consumption < 1 mA in the off state is an absolute must in battery-buffered applications.
• The load circuit is switched off in the event of a short circuit and overload; the switch-off characteristic is also available for motor loads.
• Permanent open-circuit monitoring of the load circuit. l Two status outputs for control signal AS and sum error signal SF provide information on the status of the load circuit.
• In order to be able to process the instantaneous value of the current flow in a power management system, the device also provides the user with an analogue voltage proportional to the load current from 0 to 5V, at rated currents of up to 10A. This voltage signal can also be used to set up a control circuit or to switch off the device at a lower load current value by means of external control.
• In order to switch and monitor loads greater than 20 A, it is possible to connect several devices (with the same rated current) in parallel. In this case, an even current distribution to the individual devices must be ensured by a symmetrical design of the supply cables (length and cross-section).
