Electronic brakes are used to slow down squirrel-cage asynchronous machines and 1ph AC capacitor motors within 10 seconds of switching off. For this purpose, an adjustable direct current flows through one or more windings of the motor when the operating supply is switched off. This is generated by a thyristor phase-angle control for a set time and then switched off again. High currents are induced in the squirrel-cage rotor rotating against the field, resulting in a correspondingly high braking torque.
Brake protection
To protect the electronic brake from short circuits and voltage peaks, especially when switching on again during the braking process, we design all switches with a patented switch attachment (pre-energising contact).
Motor heating during braking
The motor heating during braking by DC injection corresponds to the heating during motor starting. If motors are started and braked frequently, the motor temperature should also be monitored by a thermistor (temperature sensor).
Braking current setting
The level of the braking current depends on the motor and the flywheel mass. The level can be adjusted using a rotary potentiometer (phase angle control). Experience has shown that it makes sense to test the motors with flywheel masses in our factory for larger series in order to achieve the optimum brake setting. On request, an external adjustment facility can be provided in all switch series.
